ID 410 - Interdisciplinary Seminar in Genocide

(3 Credits)

This course is designed for upper-level undergraduate students of all majors interested in a rigorous examination of factors contributing to the development and maintenance of genocide as well as factors contributing to resistance to and prevention of genocide. Students will use an in-depth examination of the historic event known as the Holocaust to develop a foundational understanding of that phenomenon through an interdisciplinary approach. The purpose of this course is to provide students with a depth and breadth of understanding of the interrelated psychological, economic, philosophical, cultural, and social forces giving rise to genocide. The goal is to help students develop a holistic, systemic appreciation of the phenomenon of genocide. This level of understanding will serve to help students grow as informed global citizens and community members as well as better position them as potential advocates for education and prevention. The course may have a study-abroad component following the successful completion of the respective scheduled seminars.
