Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Undergraduate Programs

The Certificate in Accounting is designed for students who have completed a Bachelor’s degree in another field of business study. The curriculum is comprised of the courses specific to B.S. in Accounting and also the course work that satisfies the requirements for the Delaware CPA examination. Taken in addition to the 120+ credit hours required for a Bachelor’s degree, this certificate program will provide the student with the credit hours necessary to satisfy the CPA requirements of 150 credit hours of college course work. The full certificate totals 36 credit hours, and is comprised of twelve classes, up to six of which may be transferred in from other accredited programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who would benefit from completing the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting?
    • Current business majors, or working adults with business degrees, should explore this program if they someday hope to be a CPA or work in some field of accounting. If your undergraduate degree is in business, this certificate can prepare you for a career in accounting.
  • How many credits will I need to complete to earn the certificate?
    • That depends on the courses you completed as part of your undergraduate degree. The course work for the certificate totals 36 credit hours, but many undergraduate degrees in business require some of the same courses. You will be given credit for equivalent course work completed within the past eight years, with a “B” or better at a regionally-accredited college or university, and thus the number of credit hours may be less than 36.
  • Will the Certificate help me prepare for the CPA exam?
    • Absolutely! These courses are the same accounting courses taken by students earning the Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Combined with the business courses taken for your undergraduate degree, you will be as prepared for the CPA exam as anyone with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • When could I enroll in the program?
    • Students may enroll and start coursework at the beginning of any of our sessions - August, October, December, January, March, May, or July.
  • Would I be eligible for financial aid?
    • Many employers offer tuition assistance to their employees, but often restrict benefits to those enrolled in degree or certificate programs. While you can enroll as a non-degree seeking student anywhere to earn accounting credits, our certificate program may qualify you for the financial assistance you need.
  • What types of classes would I take to earn this certificate?
    • The classes that comprise the certificate are as follows:
