ENG 290 - Literature in the Age of Influence

(3 Credits)

Literature in the Age of Influence explores how storytelling shapes identity, power, and connection in the digital era. From novels and poetry to podcasts, social media, and influencer culture, this course examines how narratives-both personal and collective-function in a world driven by content creation and constant visibility. Students will read contemporary literature alongside essays, videos, and digital media that speak directly to Gen Z experiences, focusing on themes of authenticity, hustle culture, mental health, and online identity. Through critical analysis, discussion, and creative projects, students will gain a deeper understanding of how stories are crafted, consumed, and used to persuade and connect across platforms. This course emphasizes close reading, media literacy, and self-expression-empowering students to become thoughtful readers, creators, and communicators in both professional and personal spheres.
