General Education Curriculum


Goldey-Beacom College’s general education curriculum is designed to provide students with the broader context of global, social, historical, and economic perspectives which complement the content knowledge of major studies. All bachelor’s degree programs contain a balance of general education and major/related courses. The general education core broadens students’ understanding of themselves and their program of study in a global context, offering them the opportunity to understand the implications their decisions have on themselves, their families, communities, and their working environment. These decisions involve clear reasoning, analytical thinking, a sense of ethical judgement and social responsibility, an understanding of people, and a notion of justice.

The general education component is composed of the following courses and prescribed groups for all bachelor degree programs at the College:

General Education Goals

Upon successful completion of the Bachelor’s degree in all programs within the College, students will:

  • demonstrate competence in writing for specific purposes, audiences, and genres.
  • demonstrate the ability to conduct college-level research.
  • demonstrate competence in using contemporary technologies for communication.
  • demonstrate effective oral communication skills.
  • demonstrate competence in mathematics and mathematical software applications.
  • demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to interpersonal and cultural relations.
  • demonstrate an understanding of ethics and adhere to high standards of professional and academic integrity.
